Beauty ahead of Time - Global Mind set : chapter 9/22 labouring in vain


You've probably heard the phrase "knowledge is power".

 

Practical knowledge is power. Practical knowledge means that it can be used for the purpose of achieving results and benefits. If knowledge were everything, all librarians would be wealthy. If knowledge were everything, all librarians would be wealthy, because they would be surrounded by countless amounts of knowledge.

 

In this chapter we will discuss ways in which you can use your creativity and knowledge to help you identify the goals and problems you want to solve.


The Quick List Method


The first task is to write the answers to the following questions within 30 seconds What are the three most important goals for you at the moment?"


This is known as the Quick List Method, and in the 30 seconds you have to write, your true goals often come as a surprise.


If I give this task to students in my seminars, more than 80 per cent of them will write the same goal. They are financial goals, family goals and health goals. That's not surprising. These three areas are the most important goals in life for most people.


When everyone has finished writing their answers, ask them to give a score from 1 to 10 for how satisfied they are with each of these areas. The areas in which they score the lowest will be the areas in which they find they face the greatest problems and unhappiness in their current lives. Let's try this method.


In our business seminars, we take this task even further. We ask a quick list of questions to managers and senior executives, focusing specifically on business, finance, sales, products, employees and competitive objectives. Participants have 30 seconds to write down their answers to each question. Their answers are often very frank and can be a turning point for the business.


Tough questions

 

Leadership is the ability to solve problems. Success is the ability to solve problems. The only thing that stands between you and achieving your goals is some problem or obstacle. What are they? The following tasks are what Jim Collins calls "tough questions" that will push you to focus on your own problems.

 

Let's start with a general question. "What are your three most pressing problems at the moment?”. Apply this question to the most important areas of your business. 1.

1. what are the three most pressing issues in business?

2. what are the three problems in finance?

3. what are the three problems in sales?

4. what are the three problems of competition and markets?

5. what are the three human resources problems?

6. what are the three problems with products and services?

7. what are the three most important steps you can take immediately to improve your results?

 

The ability to ask questions, the ability to accurately answer those questions and the ability to implement methods to solve problems are critical elements to the success of your business.


Using the 78 to 22 rule


The 78 to 22 rule can be applied to both business and personal problems. Seventy eighth per cent of problems, obstacles, difficulties, worries and anxieties lie within yourself or your business; only 22 per cent are determined by external factors or people.


The starting point for a good thinker is to identify the problem clearly and ask: "What is causing this problem in myself or in my company? What is the cause of this problem in me or in my company?


Identify the excuses


In our business seminars we always ask: "Who among you wants to double your profits? Everyone in the room raises their hand.


Everyone in the room raises their hand. I ask: "Why haven't your profits doubled yet? I ask.


I then point out that there are many companies in the same industry that have doubled, quintupled and even increased their profits tenfold. Many of these companies have not been in business for as long as those in the audience. They, like the managers and directors attending my seminar, are facing a difficult environment. Why are they making far more profit than you?


This challenge will help you to identify the favourite excuses used for not achieving ideal financial results. Why isn't your business doubling in size? What are the excuses you like to use? What do you explain to yourself and others that is keeping you from achieving more?

What is holding you back, either in yourself or in your company?


By continually asking and answering these questions, your creativity will be stimulated and you will gain ideas and insights that will help you solve problems and overcome obstacles that are keeping you from achieving your business or personal goals.


Practical idealization

 

Leaders have a vision. Vision is the ability to imagine an idealized vision of the future, to return to the status quo and to make plans to achieve that idealized vision of the future.

 

If you could perfect everything about your future business with a magic wand, what would it be like? And most importantly, what would be the first thing you would have to do to get from your current state to your ideal state?

 

Decide on the first step now, and do it immediately. Everything else will follow from there. Fortunately, you can always look at least one step ahead. You may not be able to see all the way to the future, but you can always see one step. If you go as far as you can see, you will see even further.

 

Idealization is a proven method of "Peak Performance Thinking" (the idea of peak performance). By stepping into the future, or imagining the perfect situation, and returning to the present, you will gain a great perspective and see everything you can start to do today to build the perfect business for the future. 


Magic Question

 

The next challenge is a fun one. Ask yourself, "What is the one great thing I would dare to do if I knew I could not fail?

 

Imagine that you have a magic wand. You could use it to achieve any one of your goals in life. If this were possible, what goal would have the most positive impact on your life if you achieved it?

 

Whatever the answer is - and you know the answer - write it down, make a plan and start working on it every day. Take the first step. Do something. It doesn't matter what it is. It's important to work every day on this biggest goal of your life, because if you achieve it, it will change your life.

Putting problems down on paper, rather than just in your head, can make things go much faster

2. identify the goal that, if achieved, will have the most positive impact on your life.

 

 

 

3. combine 1 and 2 "Objectives: Why? Why that goal? and "Time: by when" should also be included.
